Samsung, a leading pioneer in the emerging foldable smartphone category, seems to be quite aggressively pursuing its goals with the latest reports—suggesting two new and rather exciting devices are in the works. While the company’s flagship foldables, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, are still expected to be released in summer, industry whispers hint at the introduction of a more budget-friendly Galaxy Z Flip FE and what could be a game-changing tri-fold device later this year, thus expanding Samsung’s flexible display portfolio even further.
Expanding the Foldable Family: A New Affordable Device
A report from Korean publication The Bell cites Samsung gearing up to launch a more affordable version of its tent-style flip foldable, tentatively dubbed the Galaxy Z Flip FE (Fan Edition). This aligns with the company’s strategy of offering more value-oriented FE variants for the flagship Galaxy S line. The device, rumored to mirror Samsung’s strategy with its more accessible FE variants of the flagship Galaxy S series, aims to provide the unique foldable experience to more users while making it cheaper. Although initial speculation suggested a timeline months after the standard Z Flip 7 release, this more recent report is the first to offer a relatively concrete timeframe, suggesting the device could debut in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Recent insights show a possibility that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will come with a 3.4-inch external display accommodating a dual camera and will have a design with a thicker profile than the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s 6.9mm sleekness. As for the internal components, the Z Flip series’ claim to fame, the 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED display, will feature alongside other devices of the series. To curb the everyday durability issues while still managing costs, Samsung may choose to put in Armour Aluminum on the FE model’s frame. Rumors suggest the Z Flip 7 FE will carry the same dual 50MP main camera and 12MP ultra-wide-angled lens as last year’s flagship device, keeping the versatility intact that, paired with last year’s flagship, also ensured unsurpassed versatility. The Z Flip 6’s 4,000mAh battery unit will also be consistent on the new model. Lastly, the Exynos 2400e will likely be the one powering the device; this chip is a dialed-down version of the chip used in the S24.
In the case of software, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will presumably come with One UI 7, which is based on Android 15, and is also expected to benefit from Samsung’s extended software support policy, which may offer up to seven years of updates.
A New Foldable Frontier: The Tri-Fold Galaxy G Fold
In addition to the more budget-friendly Z Flip FE, Samsung is reportedly progressing towards its more innovative tri-fold smartphone, which is currently referred to as “Galaxy G Fold.” This device, which is an outlier in terms of current foldable designs, has had a tumultuous development timeline. Some earlier reports suggested a potential release in Q3, but more recent insights indicate that Samsung may only showcase the device’s new form later this year, with wide availability potentially slipping to early 2026.
Rumors suggest that the Galaxy G Fold is set to be South Korean at around 300 grams, which would place it alongside the Huawei Mate XT, the first commercially available tri-fold smartphone. Design-wise, Samsung may not claim as much as Huawei’s feat of a 3.6 mm profile when unfolded. The Galaxy G Fold is said to feature a generous 9.96-inch display, providing users with a near tablet-viewing experience. A 6.54-inch segment of the screen will be accessible even when folded. To put that in context, Samsung’s current Galaxy Z Fold 6 contains a 6.3-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner display. With this considerable increase in screen size, it seems that the G Fold could further market itself as a device meant for productivity and media consumption.
Fostering the Foldable Ecosystem: A Daring Prospective
These unconfirmed gadgets are a testament to Samsung’s further devotion towards the advancement of foldable devices. The possible release of the Galaxy G Fold indicates that multifunctional foldable smartphones tailored for productivity could be developed soon, and the affordable Z Flip FE might make this novel form factor accessible to a wider audience. Samsung’s increasing smartphone range seems to indicate, alongside the evolution of the market, that the company is aiming for a daring perspective on the future of portable devices.
