The F29 also comes with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, boasting the same 6.7 AMOLED display of the F27; it boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ screen resolution. These specifications, considering the price range, are certainly acceptable. However, for most Oppo users, these attributes do not bring any additional value. As competition is set to release early 2025 devices with advanced touch responsiveness, HDR, and heightened peak brightness, this makes the F29 sound and feel irrelevant and uninspiring.
Charging Speed Lag, Battery Life Boost
With the release of the F29, we also see an increase in the battery capacity up to 6500 mAh from the F27’s 5800 mAh. Oppo claims that the upgrade means improved longevity; however, the practical impact is miniscule at best. The F27 already boasted an outstanding battery life. Alongside, the sustained 67 W wired charging by Oppo falls behind the rest of the competition that includes Realme, Xiaomi, and OnePlus with their 80 W and 100 W speeds marketed as fast charging.
A surface-level facelift
Camera features rank high for a large majority of smartphone consumers. Sadly, in the case of the F29, we lack any major upgrades, as the 50MP main sensor still lacks significant hardware. Despite claims of enhanced software improvements, no real change to the overall camera system experience will occur. While competitors focus on bigger sensors, improved low-light functionalities, and AI to photograph, the F29 feels outdated with its lacking camera setup.
Competition In The Market: The F29’s Weakest Point
The F29 is faced with competition in the mid-range market, alongside rivals that offer substantially better chipsets, advanced charging, display, and even more complex camera technology. The F29 struggles during these situations, making it seem like it is trying to outcompete lower-grade phones. It is clear the pricing structure is based on some inflated perceived value and captured market brand equity, but the capabilities offered make it hard for any Oppo user, new or existing, to purchase.
